After visiting family during the summer, I was inspired by the intricate view from an upstairs window overlooking the garden below. Whilst there I drew the scene with the intention of making it the subject of a collagraph.
The scene, abundant with various textures and detail was a delight to draw and lent itself to becoming a collagraph. A rugged slate roof directly below the window sill was swathed in clematis. Meanwhile, the window sill glowed with warmth from the afternoon sun, making it a favourite spot for the resident cats to dwell.
Sitting in the garden, I was fortunate to be joined by a cat peacefully sleeping on a cushioned seat and began sketching her quickly.
On looking through my sketchbook, I thought this cat would make a lovely addition to the collagraph if placed on the windowsill. I began recreating the textures and tones from my drawings using a craft knife, carborundum grit, tissue paper and paint predominately.
I look forward to printing this soon.
