Uffington White Horse

This collagraph of the Uffington White Horse was created for a commission completed in 2022. My client requested a collection of unique prints in earthy colours, portraying this white horse in the hazy, shifting light, notable during dawn and dusk. It was an exciting project for me to work on and I worked closely with my client, emailing them throughout the project’s journey.

Whilst working on the collagraph it was fascinating to learn about this iconic white horse. This distinct white horse is the earliest chalk hill figure, thought to be about 3000 years old. It has a very striking, stylised appearance which looks surprisingly contemporary to me. I love the dynamic flowing outlines that form this chalk figure; the lines appear to follow the contours of the undulating hill beneath creating a sense of affinity with the landscape.

The Uffington White Horse was one of three White Horses commissioned, the others commissioned were Broad Town White Horse and Cherhill White Horse.
